Why Positive Thinking Will Not Work

9 Jun

431934_480145118721958_2091172072_nThere was someone I used to work with who, well aware of their tendency to look at the negative side of things, used to constantly tell themselves to “think more positively”.

This was said with such a feeling of desperation that I just knew that not only would they NOT think positively, they would probably go even further into negative thinking. The mere fact that they kept pushing themselves to “think positively” was a sign that this would ultimately be counterproductive.

So many of us have interpreted the desire to be positive thinkers in a very narrow and ultimately ineffective way. [...]

Positive Thinking — Throw the Negative Out and Live

11 Mar

glass-half-full-positive-quoteDo you see the glass half full or half empty? Your answer to this question reflects your outlook on life, on yourself, and it even affects your health!!

When you think positive, you attract positive people and energy into your life, you tend to be more aware and take care of your health. Being pessimistic or negative attracts pessimism and negative energy into your life, which in turn affects your health adversely.

I am not saying you have to bury your  head in the sand and ignore unpleasant things or people. I am simply suggesting you find more positive and productive ways to deal with life’s unpleasant things…believe the best is going to happen instead of the worst.

In order to be positive, start self-talking positively to yourself. Allow the stream of thoughts that run through your head all day to be positive…refuse delivery of the negative ones and accept only the positive ones. The more you practice this the more optimistic you will become and you will see your life start to go in a positive direction. Believe me, I have been there and I have done it. I forced myself daily to allow only positive energy in and guess what?…POSITIVE is what comes out! Imagine that! [...]

Becoming Comfortable in Your Skin ~ Toning Those Thighs

10 Mar

I know many of us are not comfortable with our thighs, and therefore instead of training them we just don’t do anything with them. I was like this for many, many years. I am short…5’4″ and my legs are very short, I hated my thighs but I have learned some exercises that will help you become more comfortable with yours as I have mine! So, I am gonna share some of my tips for training your thighs and other body parts in this series Becoming Comfortable in Your Skin.

First of all you have to change your mindset, it is important to have a positive attitude and surround yourself with positive people. People who inspire and motivate you to be the best YOU that you can be! Once you have that engraved and ingrained in your mind then we can move on to the training and get those thighs toned and healthy.

I am a squat girl, I love my squats, they give you not just a  great backside but tone and shape your thighs. I do at least 100 a day now. I started out with doing 25 a day and built up to doing 100 a day, there are several different versions of the squat. However, I also do several other exercises to tone and shape my thighs, here are some great exercises: [...]

What Is Your Why?

What Is Your Why?

urlI have had this question asked of me numerous times. My WHY is this: I want to be fit and healthy so that my family sees that it is possible. In my family we have a history of heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes, cancer, rheumatoid arthritis and high blood pressure and I want to dodge ALL of these illnesses!

I want to teach my family, by leading them into a healthier lifestyle and showing them that they can slow down and/or reverse many of the health issues they have. It frightens me to think that some ugly disease that could be prevented could take one of loved ones away from me or me away from them. I made a change in my lifestyle, I exercise everyday, eat healthy and have a new outlook on life.

I believe this:   In order to make these changes, it is imperative for you to change your mindset. You will never succeed at anything until you believe you can do it. You have to see yourself succeeding at whatever you want and then work toward your goal. You must push all the negativity and destructive thinking out of your mind and your life, this includes those people who always seem to have something bad or non-nurturing to say about or to you. You do not need those people in your life, they will bring you down and stunt your growth and progress. You must always, everyday work on you…self-development, self-improvement. [...]

Life Is A Balancing Act

Life Is A Balancing Act

I am beginning a 30 day challenge and it is all about bringing awareness to BALANCE.   With mind and body, exercise and rest, work and play, friends and family, food and drinks; life in general.  I didn’t realize until very recently (now), that achieving balance in ones life really is a challenge.  Even WRITING about balance is tough!!!  I’ve been sitting here writing, deleting, writing, deleting, re-writing…  So here goes:

The house is either spotless or its a flippin’ mess.

I’ve either got 177 things to do and no time to get them all done, or I’ve got all day off and nothing planned!!! [...]

Simply Forming New Habits

2 Nov

So you are having a hard time making your new habits work!

One of the main reasons why new habits don’t stick is because your approach is not realistic! Maybe?

Well I have two simple ways to help you form and get great results without even really trying!

HALF HABITS

You see the most common approach in forming new habits is to take a single leap into the new habit without any type of transition period. You smoke and you want to quit smoking. You drink coffee or sodas and you want to cut this out of your diet. You don’t exercise and you want to join a gym to exercise daily. In order to achieve your goals, you rely on commitment and willpower. [...]

I Want It Right Now (Instant Gratification)

25 Sep

How many of us are guilty of this? I know I am…all the time. Even though I KNOW it takes time, I make a goal and start working hard and then expect somehow to see immediate results. That’s not the way it works. It doesn’t matter whether it’s weight loss, strength, or muscle mass you want, it all takes time! Don’t give up if you don’t see the results you want immediately. Keep working hard and pushing yourself further because ONE day…you WILL get there.

The disparaging term instant gratification is often used to label the satisfactions gained by more impulsive behaviors: choosing now over tomorrow. The skill of giving preference to long term goals over more immediate ones is known as deferred gratification or patience, and it is usually considered a virtue, producing rewards in the long-term… Instant Gratification refers to the idea that humans like to have what they want right now; not later and they don’t want to wait. Think Diet pills for quick weight loss, Aspirin for pain and McDonalds for fast food. We are mostly short term and Instant Gratification orientated because we value immediate results.

To-Do List

24 Sep

Do you have one? What do you put on yours?

We should all make TO-DO lists, it is important and will keep you on task. I know it does me, I am able to to get the majority, if not all of my to-do list done. I have learned this very important lesson, make your list “doable,” so that you don’t become overwhelmed or think that things just aren’t getting checked off as quickly as you might like.

Make day-to-day and weekly lists with short-term goals and monthly and yearly lists with long term goals on them. If you do this you will see how many of your tasks get completed and how easy it is to keep track of your goals and keep you motivated. You will see that once you complete your list, it becomes like addiction, making lists and getting them done! [...]
